La Parabole Waterfall hike - How to find it?

Updated: Mar 26

GPX track of La Parabole hike (Gourbeyre, Guadeloupe) through the forest east of Morne Joseph

Located in Gourbeyre, Parabole Waterfall is a well-known cascade that offers a stunning natural setting for hiking and swimming enthusiasts.

The traditional route used to pass through the Bassin Bleu of Gourbeyre, allowing hikers to reach Parabole by following the river upstream. However, due to recent storms, including Fiona, this path has become difficult or even impassable.

My GPX track follows hunter trails through the forest to reach the waterfall. This route significantly reduces the risk associated with rising water levels, as there are no river crossings until the cascade itself.

Discover the La Parabole Waterfall Hike in Guadeloupe

Nestled in the heart of the tropical forest in Gourbeyre, Guadeloupe, the Parabole Waterfall is a true hidden gem. Accessible via several unmarked hunter trails, this off-the-beaten-path hike leads to a stunning waterfall deep in nature. Less frequented than other popular waterfalls on the island, it offers an authentic and wild experience for adventurers seeking tranquility.

Access to the Hike Start Point

To begin this adventure, head to Gourbeyre and take the road to Bassin Bleu, continuing to Moscow. Drive past Bassin Bleu until you find a small parking lot with carbets. From there, the start of the trail is not clearly visible. Unlike the traditional river path, often rendered impassable by flooding and terrain changes following Storm Fiona, our route takes you entirely through the forest. Located to the east of Morne Joseph, this trail is safe and free from river crossings, thus avoiding the risks of sudden water rises.

The Hike in Detail

The hike begins with an ascent through the tropical forest. Along the way, you’ll be mesmerized by the local biodiversity, including spectacular trees with massive buttresses. The trail continues up to the Parabole Waterfall, where a steep descent requires some scrambling. This narrow, sometimes tricky path leads you to the base of the waterfall.
